FLEA MARKETS

The flea markets of Paris, or Les Marches aux Puces, as they are called in France, or Flohmarkt in Germany and Austria, are among the most fascinating places I shoot.  I visit them whenever I travel, and find each visit to be filled with incredible new finds to photograph. I have always timed my trips so I’ll be in certain cities at least one Saturday for the market. Some stalls are composed of anything and everything, but some, the ones that often captivate me, are those that are filled with multiples of some specific item; men’s shoes, keys, crystal, plaster animals, and so on.   This kind of “specialization” is mesmerizing and wonderfully quirky. No matter the country,  spring, summer, or autumn, I am drawn again and again to the world’s flea markets and always return with treasures in my camera.
