NUDES
I began photographing nudes when I was in art school, and modeling for photographers and painters myself. I found then, as I still do today, that the human body is infinite in its variety, and that it can be approached in the same way I approach architecture. There is poetry in the myriad forms contained in the human body, music in the smallest section of an arm, a breast, a foot. It is rare for me to photograph a full body; rather what interests me are the smallest details, the crease of an elbow, the shell-like shape of an ear, the meandering river of a spinal column, the gentle slope of a hip. I have primarily worked with the same model for about 25 years. She no longer needs direction, we can work in complete silence, because she always knows exactly how I see and what I will photograph.
Some of these images appear in the book Never Sated, tanka poetry by Pamela A. Babusci and photographs by Susan Aurinko, a collaborative project due to be released in summer 2021. Please contact Susan Aurinko if interested.
